Downtown Raleigh Alliance Launches Movement @ Market in Partnership with Poyner YMCA

RALEIGH, NC (March 28, 2019) - The Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA), in partnership with the downtown Poyner YMCA, is launching a new fitness program, Movement @ Market. The weekly event will take place each Tuesday in April and will offer complimentary fitness classes to the entire community.

Per DRA’s strategic plan, this program meets the goal of facilitating strategic partnerships to produce positive and balanced activation in downtown. That and the YMCA’s goal of being a community health promotor in downtown Raleigh, creates a sustainable partnership for this inaugural event. The location of the weekly event is Market Plaza, located off between Fayetteville Street and Wilmington Street and will move into the YMCA if inclement weather occurs.

Joy Pariz, Sr. Membership Experience Director at the Poyner YMCA, says the organization is looking forward to be part of this community project.

“We are excited to partner with DRA for this series to support community health and wellness.  As a Y, we want to meet people where they are with their health and wellness, and take steps together to meet their goals.  We hope that community members can come and try something new, hopefully something they enjoy, and take a step on their path to health and wellness.”

The schedule of events is:

  • Tuesday, April 2, 2019: High Intensity Internal Training (HIIT)
  • Tuesday, April 9, 2019: Kickboxing
  • Tuesday, April 16, 2019: High Intensity Internal Training (HIIT)
  • Tuesday, April 23, 2019: Kickboxing
  • Tuesday, April 30, 2019: High Intensity Internal Training (HIIT)
