Moore Square District a Rising Star in Changing Downtown Raleigh Landscape
RALEIGH, NC (June 6, 2017) – As downtown Raleigh continues its economic boom, the Moore Square district is quickly re-emerging as a go-to destination. Currently, the Moore Square district has more than $180 million of on-going or recently delivered development, including: the GoRaleigh Transit Station, Hargett Place, Edison Lofts, The Lincoln, SkyHouse Raleigh, The Ten at South Person, and a major park renovation in the near future. Moreover, street-level business in the district continues to thrive, with food and beverage sales growing in the district by 19% since 2013 and several new retailers opening in the past few months.
Moore Square itself, a historic park dating to the original plan for Raleigh, is expected to undergo a $12 million renovation this fall, and the nearby GoRaleigh Transit Station just completed a $9 million renovation. Meanwhile, livability in the Moore Square district continues to increase with the addition of residential developments such as SkyHouse Raleigh, the Edison Lofts, and The Lincoln, and new grocery options including Oak City Market and Raleigh Provisions.
“This part of downtown is seeing dramatic change from an influx of new residents, access to nearby office towers, and major public investments,” says Downtown Raleigh Alliance Senior Director of Economic Development and Planning Bill King.
The district is becoming one of the most active areas in downtown Raleigh for retail and dining. Nineteen store-front businesses have opened or been announced in Moore Square over the last year. These openings include restaurants and bars such as Brewery Bhavana, Watts and Ward, 42 & Lawrence, MOFU Shoppe, Royale, Sir Walter Coffee, St. Roch Oyster Bar, Trophy Tap & Table, Growler USA, Amorino Gelato, City Market Sushi, and The Outpost, as well as retailers like DGX, Oak City Market, Raleigh Provisions, Moon by Moon Apothecary, and Read With Me, downtown Raleigh’s first children’s bookstore.
“Moore Square is where my family and I come to have brunch, enjoy local art, play at Marbles and enjoy a walk. I love the beautifully preserved historic buildings and the local and independently owned businesses here,” says Read With Me founder, Christine Brenner.
Other popular attractions in the Moore Square District include Marbles Kids Museum, music venues such as Lincoln Theatre and Pour House Music Hall, and art galleries like Artspace.
