Statement from the Downtown Raleigh Alliance on Metropolitan Apartment Fire

RALEIGH, NC (March 17, 2017) –The Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) is issuing the following statement on behalf of Orage Quarles III, DRA Interim President & CEO

“It was with a heavy heart and prayerful mind that the DRA staff and I, with the rest of our great city, watched a large fire roar through an unfinished apartment building in the Glenwood South neighborhood.  While scenes like this are hard to watch, and even harder to forget, we take solace in knowing there were few injuries and no loss of life, especially as the fire took place in one of the densest parts of downtown and the city.   We cannot express enough the gratitude for our firefighters and first responders who have worked diligently to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby buildings as best they could.”

The Downtown Raleigh Alliance is offering its conference room as a co-working space for any professionals currently needing a place to work in the aftermath of the fire.  Interest parties should come to 120 S. Wilmington Street or call 919-821-6975.  We will also be communicating resources for victims in need of help over the coming days on our Facebook and Twitter channels.
